Museum of Contemporary Art

Considered one of South America’s finest museums of modern art, this national museum opened to the public in February 1974. It started small, with a limited collection showcasing the work of such contemporary artists as Valerio Adami, Pavlos, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Richard Smith, as well as Marisol Escobar and Jesus Soto, both of whom have Venezuelan roots. Occupying the eastern end of the Parque Central complex, the Museum of Contemporary Art is by far the best in the country, if not on the continent. In a dozen halls on five levels, you’ll find big, bold and sometimes shocking works by many prominent Venezuelan artists, including Jesús Soto, famous for his kinetic pieces.Over the years the collection has grown and now includes a handful of works by Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Larry Rivers. Admission: Free with several restaurants and hotels are located nearby. Hours: 9am-5pm
