The National Museum of Natural Sciences

The Natural History Museum was created in 1875, during the government of Antonio Guzmán Blanco. In the beginning, called the National Museum, an institution that covered the fields of national history, natural science and art. Its founder and first director was German scientist Ernst Gustav Adolf (1832 - 1899), who started the collection and creation of collections funds that make their diverse cultural heritage. On July 24, 1940 is inaugurated the current location, which marks the beginning of the contemporary stage of the museum, with its director at the time, Walter Dupouy Lührs (1906-1978). The current headquarters is a marked influence neoclassical building, designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, which houses reliefs and sculptures by Francisco Narváez and was declared in the year 1994 "national heritage" because of its architectural and historical values ??tangible.
